Kayla Conner is a third year graduate student in the department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, studying under Dr. Jonathan Hardy. Kayla's research interests include prenatal infection, and how infection during pregnancy increases the risk of preterm birth. Currently, Kayla studies the opportunistic pathogen Listeria monocytogenes and its effects on the placenta during prenatal infection. Prior to attending Michigan State University, Kayla received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Middle Tennessee State University, where she studied novel therapeutics for the fungal pathogen, Cryptococcus neoformans. Outside of the lab, she is interested in science outreach, and has coordinated an outreach program for Girl Scout troops in the greater Lansing area.
