Oishi Bagchi is a second-year PhD student in the department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. As part of Ashley Shade’s lab, she is interested in dormancy and resuscitation of microbial communities in response to external stress factors. Specifically, her current project is looking to identify the active and inactive species in various soils using 16S rRNA/16SrRNA gene ratios and then see how the make-up of those communities change in response to stress-associated phytohormones. On top of her research, Oishi is also interested in pursuing teaching. Prior to graduate school, she received a B.S. in Genomics and Molecular Genetics here at MSU, making her a long time East Lansing resident. In her free time, Oishi enjoys watching musicals and listening to podcasts.
