Dr. Vincent Young will present the Whittam Memorial Lecture and former Whittam trainees will give short talks and/or present posters highlighting their current research and Dr. Whittam’s impact

Dr. Thomas S. Whittam was a Hannah Distinguished Professor at Michigan State University when he sadly passed away on December 5th, 2008 at the age of 54. A renowned expert in bacterial evolution, he served as a mentor to countless undergraduate and graduate students and was a life-long teacher and friend.

Dr. Vincent Young, now a Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at University of Michigan, was a faculty member at MSU where he worked closely with Dr. Whittam. His research focuses on understanding the role of gut bacteria in human health.
