Message from the Department Chair

Greetings Microbiology and Genomics Graduates! Victor DiRita, Rudolph Hugh Endowed Chair in Microbial Pathogenesis

You made it!  You showed great diligence as a student at Michigan State and the faculty and staff in the Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics are proud of your accomplishment.

When you joined the university, you learned that Spartans are extraordinary, tenacious individuals who take on challenges to help build a better world. In your time on campus, you became a Spartan and joined this worthy effort. Then in the home stretch a challenge of historic scale arose. The COVID-19 pandemic required you to shift on the fly to an unfamiliar routine and to become much more independent in your education. You also confronted other challenges of COVID-19 head-on: some of you worked to keep the campus safe by working with the Spartan Spit Program, others started business ventures, and many of you are completing research projects you started years before. You showed clearly that you will have an impact on this world.  Whether you join the workforce or extend your education by joining an advanced degree program, you are groundbreakers in microbiology and molecular genetics.

On behalf of the Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics, congratulations on your tremendous accomplishment.  You’ve done very well on your Michigan State University journey and we wish you continued success on your path after graduation.
